Istanbul nightlife is reeling after a tragic turn of events. A blaze swept through a nightclub called Masquerade on Tuesday, April 2, killing at least 29 and injuring at least one.
Local media reports suggest that welding sparks coming into contact with fiber materials are to blame for the fire, which broke out at 12:47 PM. All of the deceased are believed to be construction workers who were aiding with renovations while Masquerade was closed. The club had only one exit.
