Artificial intelligence company Anthropic is asking federal court to dismiss key portions of a copyright lawsuit brought by Concord, Universal Music Group, ABKCO, and other music publishers over the alleged use of copyrighted song lyrics to train its AI chatbot, Claude.
The publishers filed the lawsuit in 2025, claiming Anthropic copied and stored thousands of copyrighted lyrics without permission while developing its large language models. They argue the company infringed protected musical works and should have obtained licenses before using them for AI training.
