Keigo Higashino’s ‘Eien no Kioku’ Tops Billboard Japan Book Hot 100

Keigo Higashino’s Eien no Kioku (which roughly translates to “eternal memory”) hits No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100, on the chart released Aug. 13. 

The latest novel from Higashino — published posthumously following his death on July 23 at age 68 — leads brick-and-mortar and social media to accumulate 16,394 points this week, the highest single-week point total ever recorded for a novel on the chart. The previous record was held by Uketsu’s Hen na Chizu (Strange Maps, 11,566 points), which topped the chart in its very first week on the list released Nov. 6, 2025.
