There are mixes that do not simply play in the background. They shift something in the way you hear everything else. The Mushroom Jazz series by Mark Farina is that kind of work. Eight official commercial volumes, released between 1996 and 2016 on San Francisco’s OM Records, that steadily and without any great fanfare rewired how a generation understood the relationship between the dancefloor and everything that came after it.
