The Caribbean gained another ancestor over the weekend.
On Sunday (Sept. 27), the family of Slinger Francisco, known to the world by his stage name “Mighty Sparrow,” announced the calypso giant’s passing. He was 91.
Francisco, whose recorded catalog spans seven decades and genres ranging from calypso to soca, “died peacefully surrounded by family” after “he succumbed [to] a brief illness in New York,” according to an official statement from his family.
